Asafoetida is a plant native to the deserts of Iran, Kashmir, Tajkistan, Chinese contolled kashmir (Aksai Chin), and mountains of Afghanistan. It has a strong sulfurous smell and a bitter taste. It is usually available as a coarse yellow powder.
Devil's dung is another name for asafoetida, a substance derived from the dried latex of the roots of Ferula species. Asafoetida is also known as stinking gum, asant, food of the gods, hing, and giant fennel.
Asafoetida is traditionally used for the treatment of different diseases, such as whooping cough, asthma, ulcer, epilepsy, stomachache, flatulence, bronchitis, prostate troubles, intestinal parasites, antispasmodic, weak digestion and influenza.
Ferula communis,
also known as giant fennel, is a flowering plant in
the carrot family. It's related to the common fennel
(Foeniculum vulgare).
Ferula communis is
a tall, herbaceous perennial plant that can grow up to 4.5 meters (15 feet)
tall. It's drought-tolerant and prefers full sun. It has dense roots
and a cylindrical peduncle that's green, striated, and has slimy exudate.
Ferula communis
has yellow flowers. It's native to the Mediterranean region. Its
stems grow to about 3 meters (10 feet) high and are used for tinder.
Ferula communis
has various pharmaceutical properties due to the different contents of
bioactive compounds extracted mainly from its roots, as well as its leaves and
rhizome.
It’s native to Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan,
Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kashmir,Tajikistan, China and Kazakhstan and is a bit smaller
than some other species. It only grows to about three feet tall.
Ferula grows best in a cold, arid, sunny climate. While it’s a
fussy plant, in the right climate, it will hunker down and stubbornly grow (and
spread) without any interference from us.
But when the weather takes a turn that these plants don’t like,
they go dormant. That’s why they grow so slowly.
It’s an ongoing cycle of dormancy, resurgence, dormancy, and
resurgence. But if you can manage the environment as best you can, you can
speed things up.
Asafetida
needs full sun, but it doesn’t like heat. Don’t be tempted to grow it in
partial shade to keep it cool. It actually needs full sun.
In the wild, you’ll find most species growing in sandy or loamy
soil in full sun.
The quickest way to get rid of asafetida is to
plant it somewhere with heavy, poorly-draining soil. Your soil should have a pH
around 6.5 to 7.5.
Remember, your ferula won’t die, it will just
go dormant in adverse conditions. That means it will stop growing, or it might
even die back temporarily. The more often the plant goes dormant, the longer it
takes to mature.

The Ginkgo plantation was started during the year 2001-2004. The main thrust of the programme was to develop Ginkgo plantation of improved cultivars.
Cultivars/Varieties 'Autumn Gold' (perhaps Autumn Gold™) - This male (non-fruiting) selection is common in the trade and notable for its symmetrical crown that is broad and rounded. The mature size is 50' tall with a 30' spread and fall color is an excellent deep yellow.
'Jade Butterfly' - An unusual dwarf, slow-growing form, thisplant has bright green leaves and a mature height that is less than half that of standard forms. It's an introduction out of New Zealand that is gaining popularity.
'Magyar' - An introduction that is gaining momentum in the trade, this plant is a non-fruiting male with upright, ascending branching to 60' tall and half as wide. It is well-suited to urban planting as a street tree.
'Pendula' (also listed as f. pendula) - Plants listed under this name are quite variable, with few expressing a strong weeping habit. Most bear branches that are horizontal or droop slightly 'PNI 2720' (Princeton Sentry®) - A very popular non-fruiting male form, this form assumes an upright habit that tapers to the point. It reaches 60' tall, but only 25' wide.
'Saratoga' - Commonly offered, this plant has a strong central leader and an upright, narrow habit (40' tall and 30' tall).
'Variegata' - Many different clones are offered under this name, but most feature leaves that are irregularly streaked with yellow.

diaphoretic and purgative. They
have proved useful in the treatment of rheumatism, Hair growth and syphilis.
The bark is febrifuge.
Other uses of Buxuswallichiana: Plants can be grown as a hedge, they are very tolerant of pruning
but are slow growing. Wood - hard, fine grained, durable. Used for engraving,
fine carving, mathematical instruments etc. It is at least equal in quality to
B. sempervirens.
Quince, Cydonia oblonga, is the sole member of the genus Cydonia in the family Rosaceae. The quince, is a small deciduous tree that bears a pome fruit, similar in appearance to a pear, and bright golden-yellow when mature.
The stem bark is astringent, it is used in the treatment of ulcers. The seed is a mild but reliable laxative, astringent and anti-inflammatory. When soaked in water, the seed swells up to form a mucilaginous mass. This has a soothing and demulcent action when taken internally and is used in the treatment of respiratory diseases, especially in children. This mucilage is also applied externally to minor burns etc. The fruit is antivinous, astringent, cardiac, carminative, digestive, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, pectoral, peptic, refrigerant, restorative, stimulant and tonic. The unripe fruit is very astringent, a syrup made from it is used in the treatment of diarrhoea and is particularly safe for children. The fruit, and its juice, can be used as a mouthwash or gargle to treat mouth ulcers, gum problems and sore throats. The leaves contain tannin and pectin. Tannin can be used as an astringent whilst pectin has a beneficial effect on the circulatory system and helps to reduce blood pressure.

Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba; in Chinese and Japanese 銀杏,pinyin romanization: yín xìng,Hepburn romanization: ichō or ginnan), also spelled gingko and also known as the maidenhair tree, is a unique species of tree with no close living relatives. The ginkgo is a living fossil, recognisably similar to fossils dating back 270 million years. Native to China, the tree is widely cultivated and was introduced early to human history. It has various uses intraditional medicine and as a source of food.
Medicinal use of Tobacco: Tobacco has a long history of use by
medical herbalists as a relaxant, though since it is a highly additive
drug it is seldom employed internally or externally at present.
The
leaves are antispasmodic, discutient, diuretic, emetic, expectorant,
irritant, narcotic, sedative and sialagogue.
They are used externally in
the treatment of rheumatic swelling, skin diseases and scorpion stings.
The plant should be used with great caution, when taken internally it
is an addictive narcotic. The active ingredients
can also be absorbed through the skin. Wet tobacco leaves can be
applied to stings in order to relieve the pain. They are also a certain
cure for painful piles. A homeopathic remedy is made from the dried leaves. It is used in the treatment of nausea and travel sickness.

Medicinal use of Kiwi Fruit : The fruits, stems and roots are diuretic, febrifuge and sedative. They are used in the treatment of stones in the urinary tract, rheumatoid arthralgia, cancers of the liver and oesophagus.
Propagation of Kiwi Fruit : Seed - sow spring in a greenhouse. It is probably best if the seed is given 3 months stratification, either sow it in a cold frame as soon as it is ripe in November or as soon as it is received. Fresh seed germinates in 2 - 3 months at 10°C, stored seed can take longer. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in light shade in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. When the plants are 30cm or more tall, plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Most seedlings are male. The seedlings are subject to damping off, they must be kept well ventilated.
Medicinal use of Ceratonia siliqua : The pulp in the seedpods of carob is very nutritious and, due to its high sugar content, sweet-tasting and mildly laxative. However, the pulp in the pods is also astringent and, used in a decoction, will treat diarrhoea and gently help to cleanse and also relieve irritation within the gut. Whilst these appear to be contradictory effects, carob is an example of how the body responds to herbal medicines in different ways, according to how the herb is prepared and according to the specific medical problem.
The seedpods are also used in the treatment of coughs. A flour made from the ripe seedpods is
demulcent and emollient. It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea. The seed husks are astringent
and purgative. The bark is strongly astringent. A decoction is used in the treatment of diarrhoea.
Edible parts of Ceratonia siliqua : Seedpods - raw or ground into a powder. The seedpods are filled with a saccharine pulp and can be eaten both green or dried. They are very sweet but fibrous, the pulp can be used as a chocolate substitute in cakes, drinks etc. It is rich in sugars and protein. The pods contain about 55% sugars, 10% protein and 6% fat. Seed - rich in protein. A flour is made from them which is 60% protein, it is free from sugar and starch and is suitable for baking. It can be used as a chocolate substitute. An edible gum is extracted from the seed, a substitute for Gum Tragacanth
(see Astragalus species). A stabilizer and thickening agent, it is also used as an egg substitute.
The roasted seed is a coffee substitute.
